Gervonta Davis is in police custody after a warrant for his arrest was issued on January 15. The boxing superstar was accused of domestic violence in a lawsuit.

What happened?

Davis allegedly assaulted an ex-partner at a gentlemen’s club in October. The unnamed woman claims Davis “grabbed her by the back of her head, pulling her by the hair with one hand and by her throat with another.”

The Miami Gardens Police Department worked with the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force to locate and apprehend Davis. After a multi-day surveillance operation across three counties, Davis was finally apprehended.

Why it matters for Gervonta Davis

Davis hasn’t fought since battling Lamont Roach to a controversial draw in March 2025. He was recently stripped of his WBA title due to ongoing legal issues and inactivity.

The 30-0-1 boxer will get the chance to present his case to the WBA before they make a final decision. However, Davis has far worse things to worry about than whether he is still a world champion or not.

What comes next?

Davis’ bail has been set at $16,000. His latest mugshot has been shared on social media. The former WBA lightweight champion faces charges of false imprisonment, battery, and attempted kidnapping.

The investigation determined that Davis used force to restrain and attempt to remove the victim from the location against her will. Davis was supposed to face YouTuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul in November, but their clash was called off after the domestic violence allegations surfaced.

Logan Paul’s little brother, Jake Paul, ended up getting his jaw broken when he got knocked out by a replacement opponent, Anthony Joshua, a month later. Davis’ future in boxing remains uncertain as he deals with the consequences of his actions.
